Dear Juno (but generally a real pregnant teenager), Getting pregnant is so easy that many high school girls become pregnant each year. Unfortunately you became one of the many American girls who had to face this struggle. Maybe it wasn’t so unfortunate though. I believe when minors are suddenly faced with a situation beyond their maturity levels, it could be the life changing dose of reality that subtracts their incompetence of the severity of certain situations. But in all means if you have intercorse in highschool you should be mature enough to understand the consequences and be safe about your actions. Regardless if you believe it wasn’t in your intentions to become pregnant, I would disagree. If you weren’t on birth control, if you didn’t use a condom, if you and Bleeker didn’t attempt the pull out method then I believe it was subconsciously intended. Infact, there is a part of me that thinks pregnancy is subconsciously intended in any act of intercorse. You may have felt sexual tension between someone you cared about and were attracted to and acted out on it and became responsible for a life you weren’t even close to being ready for. And that is what I think is unfortunate for a young life, such as yours, to deal with.
However I think your decision to not terminate your pregnancy was a great decision. I believe your stepmom put it best when she said “Somebody else is going to find a precious blessing from Jesus in this garbage dump of a situation”. I believe all lives deserve to be lived and you gave Vanessa the chance to be a mother when she couldn’t have kids of her own.You gave a life instead of taking a life! Although Vanessa and Mark’s situation ended up being really toxic, I think it worked out for the best in the end. Vanessa clearly had a stable job and could easily support your child on her own. With Mark out of the picture before the baby was born is a plus in my book. I believe it saved the child any chance of feeling the horrible wrath of abandonment that you and many children have faced. If you decided to keep the baby it would change your life and who knows maybe ruin your relationship with Bleeker. Teens are never ready to have kids. Getting an education is the most important thing you could do for yourself and having a baby would ruin that. So in the end I believe you did the right thing. I think putting your child up for adoption is less emotionally painful than termination. I hope in the future of you and Bleekers relationship, if you choose to have sex again you will play it safe.
